He leaned a little closer, his heart picking up pace as head was right next to hers now. "What is it?" he repeated, a slightly nervous chuckle following.
She looked at him for a moment with a smile before she suddenly kissed him lightly, a dark blush coming to her as her eyes fell shut.
He squeaked as he froze, his eyes wide as he just sat there, not sure what to do, before closing his eyes and kissing back slightly. The kiss was brief as he pulled away, his eyes wide and his face dark red as he took a few deep breaths of surprise, though his gaze stayed to hers.
She blushed darker as she looked at him, looking down slightly. "S-sorry..." she murmured, looking away as she rolled over so her back faced him, one of her arms under her head as her hand covered the back of her head.
He reached out to her. "W-wait.." he stammered, his blush still dark. "I-it's just been a hell of a first day..." he said with a soft, nervous chuckle as he took a deep breath to calm himself.
She turned back to look at him, her eyes glimmering faintly. "That I can agree with." she sighed, reaching out and holding his hand gently.
He smiled a bit as he chuckled again, though this time more relaxed as he held her hand gently as his blush faded slightly, though still there as he looked into her eyes, seeming a bit lost as his gaze seemed to soften a bit.
She couldn't suppress a small yawn that came from her, only adding to her innocence and cuteness. It was probably from the blood she had lost before they had gotten to the hospital that she was so tired.
He only smiled more. "Come on you need some rest." he whispered quietly, holding her hand a little tighter as his eyes only grew gentler, all the anger in him from earlier now gone.
She gave a sleepy smile. "Will you be okay? You still need to get your cast put on." she murmured, not going to do anything until she made sure he'd be okay.
He nodded once. "I'll be fine... It's not like I haven't broken a bone before." he replied quietly as he leaned forward a bit, his blush from earlier still there.
Her smile grew as she reached over and brushed some hair from his face gently. "Alright." she sighed, finding it hard to take her gaze off him as her own blush was still there. "Go get your cast put on, okay? I don't want your arm getting hurt anymore then it already is."
He nodded once, "I've had worse before... But ok." he replied, his gaze locked to hers as he squeezed her hand slightly, before suddenly kissing her softly and briefly, still shy about it as he looked into her eyes again, his blush only darker now. "Let's hope you get better soon." he whispered softly, letting out a sigh as he tried to calm his racing heart.
Her own blush became darker as well, though she still smiled. "I'll be fine." she said softly.
"Katie, baby! Are you awake yet?" a woman's voice suddenly called, coming into the view. She had long brown hair like Katie, but her eyes were a darker blue. The woman froze as she stared at Katie and Fletcher, shocked.
He froze as well, letting out a squeak as he looked up, knowing the blood and ink on him and his broken arm would certainly NOT make a good first impression as he stared with wide eyes, still holding Katie's hand as his blush remained.
"Mom, I-" Katie began, only to be cut off as the woman gave a shriek of what seemed to be fright.
"Get away from my baby!!" the woman cried, suddenly rushing over, pushing him roughly away which caused his chair to tip backwards. She quickly grabbed Katie and pulled her into a protective embrace, having thought that Fletcher was the one who had harmed Katie due to the blood on him.
He let out a cry of pain as a crack filled the air, landing on his broken arm and breaking it again as he closed his eyes tight, gritting his teeth as he squirmed a bit, his arm now bent in at an unnatural angle, but higher up then the first break as he groaned a bit, his eyes never opening.
"Fletcher!!" Katie cried, pushing the woman, who seemed to be her mother, away as she pulled out the needles from her arm and quickly got out of the bed, stumbling slightly but managing to get beside him. She whimpered slightly, helping him up and careful not to touch his broken arm. "Are you okay??" Her eyes were coated with worry as she looked at him.
He opened his eyes and looked at her, breathing hard as his pained look remained on his face, he nodded a bit, but let out another slight groan of pain as he ground his teeth, his pain tolerance only at it's best when he was angry, so right now he was in more pain then before.
She looked back over at her mother with a small growl. "Look what you did!" she snapped before looking back at him, her expression returning soft and kind as she gathered her strength and led him out into the hall. A nearby nurse saw him and nearly dropped the clipboard she held. The nurse quickly walked over to them, giving a polite smile to Katie.
"We'll give him another x-ray and get a cast on him." she assure before looking to Fletcher. "Come on, young man. You can still walk can't you?" Her voice was light and kind as she led him back to the x-ray room. Katie tried to follow, only to be stopped by a doctor who told her to go back into her room and lay back down. She paused for a moment before slowly obeying, going back to her room as the doctor followed. As she laid back down in the bed, the doctor covered her again and put the needles back in her arm.
"Leave those in. If you take them out again you could loose too much blood and go unconscious again." he warned before leaving.
Katie's mother was now sitting in another chair, the one Fletcher had been sitting in pushed to the side as she stared at it, confused now.
Fletcher remained silent, turning and looking at Katie, worry replacing the pain in his eyes, before the nurse put him back into the x-ray room. He gave a sigh of relief to find the boy not there as they took another shot of his arm, finding it broken one more time, several inches higher then the last break. He looked down in silence, not having anything to say as he pulled his eraser back out and started fiddling with it again.
"Katie, who is that boy??" her mother asked, looking at her.
Katie only groaned and rolled over, her back now facing her mother as she ignored her.
An all too familiar belch suddenly rang in the air as Rugby walked by, a bright pink stethoscope hanging around her neck as she walked rather stupidly, her head higher then it should have been as she had a smug look on her face and she walked with more of a march. Obviously school was over and she had heard about what had happened but just lost track and was fooling around, though the doctors seemed to pay no mind to her.
Katie lifted her head from her head, looking towards the door. "Rugby??" she murmured, though didn't get up, remembering what the doctor had said.
She had already passed the door, but her footsteps could be heard stopping "I hear a familiar voice..." she murmured. "Oh my god, I hear a voice and it's familiar!" she cried, seeming to spaz out as she suddenly poked her head through the door. "Katie!" she exclaimed, her stupid smile there for a moment, before it faded at the sight. "You look like you got in a car wreck, girl..." she murmured as she walked in, not paying any real mind to her mother as she stared for a moment. "Who's the wise guy who did this to you so I know who's....... Assets to kick.." she said, stopping herself from cursing as she apparently did notice Katie's mother, just not really showing it.
Katie grinned, sitting up as she looked at Rugby. "Just some Junior guy who got a little too close for my comfort. Don't worry about it. I was lucky Fletcher was there to teach that guy a lesson before I became the dude's little sex toy." she explained, getting a shocked look from her mother.
"Katie! I told you to stay away from those guys in the higher grades!"
"I know, mom! I DIDN'T go anywhere near him, he came towards me!"
Rugby tilted her head with a snort. "Juniors....all idiots..... And do you mean Fletcher Williams?? The guy who sits in the back of the class like a bump on a log not saying a thing and breaking freaking pencils in half like a mini hulk??" she inquired, chuckling a bit. "That dude scares me sometimes.... I bumped into him in the hall on my way to first class and he just stared at me with this....void... freaky look, oh my GOD that scared me!" she babbled, starting to get carried away as she fiddled with the stethoscope, looking at a clock.
"I'm surprised anything can scare you, Rugby." she joked, stiffening a giggle. "So, what are you doing here?? And who did you steal the stethoscope from?"
"Ok, I know I can be a punk that's seen nearly everything scary or otherwise... But THAT guy is just plain creepy." she said, not really knowing the connection between him and Katie. "And the stethoscope's my mom's.... I heard what happened and she let me out.... She wants me to be a physician when I get older...." she explained, though not
explaining why she was marching around like an idiot earlier. "Oh snap, I forgot Mikey." she murmured under her breath. "Mom's gonna be mad." she chuckled. Apparently they were related in some way, but it was almost certain they weren't siblings, at least not by blood.
"Fletcher is NOT creepy!" she snapped, holding back a growl. "And what do you mean you forgot Mikey?"
She blinked a bit at the outburst, before suddenly smiling with a giggle. "Interesting...." she murmured, before shaking her head. "And believe it or not... Mikey's actually my step brother." she said with a little shrug, an embarrassed look on her face with a nervous giggle. "Weird I know... I don't know what my mom was thinking when she remarried his dad....They're both complete geeks." she laughed a bit. "I'll be right back." she said as she walked out. "Mikey!!! Get your skinny ass butt over here before I have to hunt you down!!" she called as she could be seen walking off, calling out his name every now and again.
Katie huffed, plopping back down onto her pillows roughly.
"Well, she doesn't know how to watch her language." her mother said softly.
"Mom." Katie growled, before sighing, closing her eyes and wishing Fletcher was here right now and her mom out of the room.
There was a small, strange noise as Fletcher could be seen being taken to another room, a thick white cast on his arm and new clothes. His head was low at first, before looking into her room, slowing a bit and smiling with a wave, trying to stop the doctor as he walked to her room, eying her mother cautiously.
Katie opened her eyes in time to see him as she smiled, sitting up again no matter how tired she was. Her mother only looked away, her arms crossed.
He made another small noise, assuring the nurse he'd be fine as he walked up to her, trying to keep his distance from her mother now as he sat back in the chair. "You still ok?" he asked softly, his voice gentle and quiet as he let his left arm lay in his lap, his eyes caring and concerned, stating to her mother he wasn't really bad.
"I'm fine." she said sweetly, smiling as her eyes glimmered. "What about you? I was kinda worried."
Her mother's gaze was now locked to Fletcher but she still didn't look happy as she gave him a sharp glare that never left.
He shuddered a bit as he felt her gaze on him, his expression becoming a bit nervous now as he nodded. "Yeah... Just broke another bone a little higher up.... Tacking on a few more weeks for this darn thing..." he murmured, clanking the cast to the arm rest a bit, it making a thump as he did so, no pain felt as he smiled a little.
She looked over at her mother, growling faintly. "Mom. Stop it."
Her mother's gaze lightened as she looked at Katie before looking down in a pout-type thing.
Katie looked back to him with another bright smile. "Sorry about her. She's just not very trusting of guys. Especially when it comes to me."
He made another noise as he nodded a bit with a soft sigh, seeming to understand as his foot started tapping.
"HAHA! Come on boy! Get the PSP!" Rugby's voice was heard calling as she came into view, holding a PSP high in the air, Mikey soon crashing into her and trying to take it.
"Come on! Give it back! That's not funny! I've almost beaten the entire game!!" he whined, only for her to run off again, him soon following. Fletcher chuckled softly, rolling his eyes a bit before looking back to Katie, smiling a little more, though a bit tense as he knew the other boy must have had his cast and whatever was needed for his eye fitted to him.
She giggled softly before looking at him again also. "Poor Mikey." she said softly. "He's always getting picked on."
He nodded with a chuckle. "Yep...." he muttered simply. "He'll eventually man up though.. All people like him do.... Just wait." he muttered, looking out the door again for a moment, but quickly returning to her.
She laughed softly. "You keep looking at the door like someone's going to walk in any minute. Is something wrong?"
"Just a nervous habit." he replied with a soft smile as he resisted the urge to hold her hand, knowing her mother was right there.
Katie's smile grew before she looked over at her mother. "Mom, this is Fletcher. He's my friend, the one who saved me from the Junior guy, not the one who did this to me." she explained, hoping to ease her stress.
Her mother looked up at him, a dark blush coming to her in embarrassment. "Well, I'm sorry for causing you more pain to your arm." she said simply, still wary though.
He nodded once. "Don't worry.... I've had far worse happen to me over the years." he muttered, stomping the ground lightly with his bad leg, but only Katie really knew what that meant, her being the only person he told about his infection so long ago. His jacket was gone now so his scar could be seen on his other arm, though he didn't want to draw much attention to it. "Oh, hey, do you wanna sign my cast, Katie?" he asked with a smile as he changed the subject, reaching over to the desk and finding a sharpie marker.
She looked back at him with a bright smile. "I'd love to." she said softly, patiently waiting for him to hand her the marker.
He gave her the marker with a sweet smile, a faint, tiny crack in the side of it, probably because he was a bit nervous being around her mother, but he seemed calm other wise as he held out his arm to her, still smiling gently.
Opening the marker, she signed her name on his cast in cursive with a little heart over the i. She was debating if she wanted to put more but for then she left it with just her name.
He smiled a bit, knowing that was probably the only thing that was going to be on his cast now since no one else would probably bother to sign it. He chuckled a bit, his foot tapping again as he let his arm rest in his lap again as he sat back.
She relaxed a bit, tossing the marking back to the desk he had found it on. With a sigh, she plopped back down onto her pillows heavily, staring at the ceiling and having nothing much to say. "Well, the only upside to our incident was we got out of school." she said, looking at him with a small giggle.
He laughed a bit as well, his smile growing "True." he replied, his smile growing a bit as his eyes wandered to the door yet again, before forcing his gaze away. It was a bit strange that his father hadn't come yet, but then again, maybe not so much.
Fletcher caught a quick glimpse of the Junior boy, but he didn't look too happy as a man that looked like the boy's father was yelling at him, not seeming the least bit concerned about the boy's broken bones.
Fletcher stared blankly, figuring not to bother him any more when he got back to school since his father was handling it just well. He ignored him as he looked back at Katie, a relaxed look in his eye.
"Come on Rugby! Get the hat! Get it!" Mikey's voice called as he ran into the room, holding Rugby's visor behind his back and a huge smile on his face.
"Give me my visor back, you prick!" Rugby yelled as she tackled him, reaching for the visor.
"Give me my PSP back!" he shot back, laughing as he squirmed away. Somehow the two never knocked anything down in their struggle. Fletcher chuckled slightly, though not quite liking the disturbance as he backed his chair up a bit.
Katie huffed, though couldn't help but laugh softly as she sat up once again. "Guys, come on! Just give each other back their stuff." she didn't care much for the disturbance either, still being tired since she hadn't been able to get back to sleep. Though she didn't have the heart to tell anyone to leave.
They both stopped and looked at her for a moment, before shutting up and giving back what they took.
"Annoying brother." Rugby murmured under her breath, her hair a complete mess now, probably from fighting or something. Mikey grumbled as he turned his game on and started playing immediately, all interest in the outside world gone in an instant as he lost himself in his own little world. Rugby made an uncomfortable noise as she looked at Fletcher, apparently still creeped out by him as he paid no mind to her, just looking down as fiddling with his eraser.
Katie looked at Rugby curiously, careful not to let her gaze fall on Mikey as she was still wary of him. "You okay, Rugby?" she asked, sensing she wasn't exactly comfortable with Fletcher here.
She shrugged, backing up a bit.
"He seriously creeps me out!" she mouthed, careful not to draw his attention as her hands went behind her back and she looked at Katie with nervous eyes, it was clear that the void look he'd given her earlier had scared her.
Katie couldn't help but smile, looking at Fletcher before looking back at Rugby with a small giggle. "He's not that bad." she mouthed back. "He's really sweet." she added, though only mouthed as if not wanting to draw his attention either.
Rugby made a little noise and a hand puppet as if mocking someone, but she was really just losing track of the situation again as she actually started talking to it about a totally different subject and making it talk back, the voice completely different and her mouth hardly moving at all.
"Why am I related to an ADHD ventriloquist?" Mikey sighed to himself as he continued playing his game, small noises coming from the device. Fletcher slowly looked up, his face blank again as it was clear he was a bit uncomfortable with the crowd, though he said nothing about it.
Katie stiffened another giggle before looking back over at Fletcher. "Not a fan of crowds, are you?" she asked, her voice kind and soft as it had been.
His eyes lit up a touch as he looked at her with a small smile. "No.... I've never liked many people around." he murmured quietly.
"Shut up!" Rugby suddenly yelled at her hand as she grabbed her wrist and started 'choking' the hand puppet and shaking it. Mikey sighed again as he rolled his eyes.
"Rugby! You are fighting your hand!" he called, only to be ignored as she bit her hand, apparently far too lost in her little imaginary world to hear. Fletcher chuckled softly, rolling his eyes as he looked back to Katie, his smile growing a bit more.
Katie laughed slightly at Rugby, though quickly returned to looking at Fletcher. "School must be hell for you then."
"Katie!" her mother snapped, only for Katie to roll her eyes.
"Don't mind her." she said sweetly.
He chuckled again. "Don't worry.... I have the same problem with my dad." he replied with a sigh. "And yes... School is not my friend." he murmured. "I never really like it." he said, ignoring Rugby as she started growling and strangling her hand. Mikey trying to stop her now as he dragged her out, ignoring her as she blamed the hand for starting the fight. "Someone needs medication." Fletcher snorted as he made a half smile, apparently amused. What he said was true though, it seemed like Rugby needed a medication of some sort.
She giggled again, reaching out and managing to grab hold of his hand lightly, not caring if her mother was right there.
He glanced at her mother for a split second, though she didn't see as his gaze quickly fell to Katie as he held her hand gently, finding himself unable to deny her, something that was odd for him and his strong will. His eraser lay on the side of the bed now, in the shape of what seemed to be a misshapen heart, but he never looked at it while he was messing with it so he didn't know about it.
Katie's mother was too busy looking at a cell phone she was messing with to notice much of anything at the moment.
"By the way, the doctor said you might be here for a few days and you may suffer a bit of memory loss, but other then that you'll be fine." her mother suddenly said, looking up from the phone before her eyes widened as she stared at both of them.
He wasn't paying any mind to her mother as he was looking down a bit, seeming lost in thought of what had happened over the eventful day.
Her mother stood slowly, her gaze never leaving the two of them as she walked to the door, smiling quickly before she slipped out into the halls.
Katie sighed, a bit relieved her mother had left. She smiled, her eyes locked to Fletcher as they had been.
He looked back up at her, smiling sweetly as he relaxed as he let out a soft sigh, holding her hand a bit tighter as his eyes glimmered a bit, though he remained silent, not sure what to say.
"And to think this whole thing started with just a simple piece of paper." she said softly.
He chuckled with a nod. "Weird as hell, this first day." he chuckled as he scooted the chair closer, it being shoved back when her mother had pushed him over.
She still sat upright on the bed, though she was clearly tired as her head bobbed once, though she resisted giving into sleep again.
He made a bit of a face. "Katie you need to rest.." he muttered, his eyes and voice full of concern as he shifted a bit in his seat, squeezing her hand gently, his thumb rubbing her hand slightly as he didn't really seem to notice.
"But I don't wanna." she whined softly like a little girl.
He smiled warmly, finding it cute. "Come on now...It won't hurt to get a little sleep" he pleaded, only caring for her as he let her hand go to move a bit of hair that was in her face, before going back to her hand. "You took quiet a hit.. You need to rest if your tired... You'll feel better when you wake up... And I'll be fine.." he said, knowing the feeling of being groggy after having a severe injury.
"But..." She paused to let out a yawn. "...but I'm afraid I won't wake up." she murmured, holding his hand a little tighter.
He frowned a bit, not liking seeing her so scared as he forced his other arm onto the bed as well. "It'll be alright... The doctors will take good care of you." he whispered, his voice soft and gentle as he held her hand up a bit and holding it tighter as well as he looked into her eyes, his soft and gentle as they shined a bit.
She smiled slightly, finally laying back down. "Okay..." she mumbled, "I trust you..." She looked at him, her gaze never leaving him before she was finally too tired to stay awake any longer and she closed her eyes.
He let out a sigh. "Sleep well.." he whispered he leaned over and kissed her forehead quickly, before just sitting there, holding her hand, since his father had yet to show and he had no where else to go. He laid his head down on the bed, closing his eyes as he found nothing else to do as his foot started tapping quietly.
She seemed to fall asleep quickly, everything about her calm and soothed. She only appeared more innocent as she slept, so harmless.
He lifted his head a bit to look at her, his heart melting as he laid his head back down with a smile, feeling tired as well as he yawned slightly and closed his eyes, seeming to let everything slip as he fell asleep.
