A few hours passed by until Katie woke with a small noise, taking all the time she needed to wake as she tried to fall back asleep. Then she remembered Fletcher and she opened her eyes, looking to see if he was still there.
He was snoring slightly, not having moved an inch as he still held her hand. It was so strange that his father hadn't picked him up yet or something, but then she remembered the thing with his father not taking him to the doctor when he had staph, so it must have been a normal thing for him to be inattentive to his son. He made a small noise as he started mumbling something in his sleep.
She felt bad for him if his father was so inattentive to him. She slipped her hand from his to gently pet his hair, smiling slightly.
He smiled in his sleep, making a small noise as he seemed to press to her hand a bit. He looked like a lost little puppy that had just found a home when he slept, so peaceful and happy as his hand twitched a bit, curling up some.
Her smile grew as she continued to pet his hair lightly, gently twirling her fingers around some of it. It was around 6 pm now, and she was getting a little hungry considering she'd skipped lunch due to the incident, but she ignored it, her gaze never leaving him.
His smile grew as his eyes slowly opened and he looked up at her, blinking a few times to clear his eyes. His smile faded a bit as stared for a moment as if trying to remember what had happened. He made another noise as his smile returned. "Hey." he mumbled, not stopping her from petting his hair as he seemed to enjoy it.
"Hello." she murmured with a bright smile. "How come your father hasn't come and got you yet? Does he even know you're here?"
He shrugged a bit, though never moved from his spot. "I don't know.... I'm pretty much on my own nowadays because he's always at work.... And I think he recently changed his number so the school probably can't contact him.... So I doubt he even knows..." he said with a sigh, "He's hardly ever home... So he wouldn't know if I was gone or not..."
Her smile faded slightly. "I know how you feel. My dad was hardly ever home and when he did come home he was drunk off his ass. When he wasn't at home he was out at bars and clubs, usually drinking and gambling. That's why my mom divorced him."
He frowned a bit, his hand reaching to hers and gently taking it out of his hair to hold it. "Looks like we've both got rough pasts..." he mumbled, sitting up now as he now had a mark on the side of his face where he'd laid his head on his cast. He didn't notice as his gaze was locked to hers.
She looked at the mark and couldn't help but laugh, her eyes bright and full of life.
He tilted his head a bit. "What's so funny?" he asked with a soft chuckle, liking to hear her laugh as his eyes relaxed a bit more, his hand holding hers a little tighter.
She grinned. "It's nothing, you just got something on the side of your face." she said, her voice light and happy as the rest had clearly helped her mood.
"Must have been from my cast." He shrugged as he wiped his face with his shoulder a bit, making the mark fade slightly, though still there. "And I told you you'd feel better after some rest." he said with a sweet smile as his eyes seemed to have gained life as well.
"Yeah..." she murmured, her eyes sparkling slightly. "You know, it seems my life has gotten a lot better since I met you... Other then that fight... but a hit to the head is better then some Junior's personal toy."
"I feel the same way.... I thought no one really cared about or understood me..... I think high-school's going to be good." he said, his smile growing as he moved a bit forward in his seat, his gaze never leaving her's.
"You know, if you'd always have this much life in your eyes and didn't go around staring at people, I'm sure you'd have a lot more friends. Even Rugby's afraid of you." She sighed. "It seems we might have to work on your social skills."
He shrugged a bit, looking down as he found himself at lack of response at first. "I.... I used to try making friends when I was younger... But I'd always end up stammering or saying something insulting... And they'd never let me see the end of it... So eventually I just... Stopped trying." he murmured quietly, still looking down.
"Hey, it's okay. Not everyone's perfect." she said softly, holding his hand a little tighter. "We can work on that. It'll make high-school a whole lot easier for you. Trust me."
He smiled as he looked back up with gentle eyes. "Thanks..." he whispered as his thumb rubbed her hand a bit as he let out a sigh, relaxing again as he looked at the eraser that was still on the bed next to him, before somehow managing to grab it in his left hand and put it in his lap, not wanting to lose it.
She smiled. "You know, if you need a place to stay while you're fathers gone, I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind you coming home with us." she offered, her eyes glimmering. "Though I'm probably going to have to stay here until they can fix my head." she added, a bit more soft.
He made a noise. "I.... I'm okay... But thank you...." he mumbled. "I've gotten used to the quiet and being alone at the house... I prefer it...." he murmured quietly as he looked down for a moment, before looking back up to her with a sweet smile. "Plus if my dad found out he'd probably get angry..... Even if he's hardly home... When he is he expects me to be there too." he sighed with a shrug. "He's really weird sometimes."
Her eyes dulled slightly, though she only forced a smile. "Oh, alright then... But I'll always be here for you if you need me."
His smile grew a bit as he seemed to lose himself in her eyes. "I really appreciate the offer though..." he assured, before going silent for a moment, out of words to say as his foot started tapping again quietly.
"Yeah..." she murmured softly, though seemed to be avoiding eye contact with him as she looked down slightly, her forced smile never fading.
He tilted his head a bit, seeming to sense her distress as his smile faded a bit. "Hey... You okay...?" he asked, his eyes dulling slightly as well as he worried he might have upset or offended her like he had so many others. "Did I say something?" he asked, his voice a bit quiet as his hand started to loosen from her's as he grew a bit nervous.
"Huh?" she looked back at him, sounding as if she hadn't been paying attention. "Oh, I'm fine. It's just that... You're father doesn't sound like he pays much attention to you. And... I don't think you should be alone like that. I know what abandonment feels like."
"Oh..." he mumbled, letting his hand tighten around her's again. "I don't really mind it anymore.... He's been leaving me on my own ever since I got a black belt... When I was 11.... Before then he'd leave me at his friend's house.....but after the black belt.... He just... figured I could handle myself I guess." he shrugged.
"Have you ever thought that's why your a bit antisocial? Because you've been alone for so long? Where's your mother then?" she asked, looking at him with concerned eyes.
He made a noise at the mention of his mother, looking down as his hand held her's even tighter suddenly. "I.. don't want to talk about that." he mumbled simply as he closed his eyes with a sigh.
She quickly silenced, her eyes seeming to lose their life quickly. She didn't say anything else, afraid she'd only make him more upset as she looked away.
He slowly opened his eyes. "Hey, it's my problem... Don't worry about it." he mumbled, looking at her, not wanting to see his only friend upset as he tugged at her hand a bit like a child trying to get it's parents attention.
She quickly looked back at him, not being able to deny him. "That's the problem with me. I tend to go too far with my stupid questions. I'm sorry I brought it up..." she squeaked, looking down slightly before looking back at him with dull eyes.
He shrugged. "Can't help curiosity... It even gets the best of me sometimes." he said with a soft chuckle, trying to lighten the mood as he released her hand to move some hair out of her face again, before returning to her hand, holding it strong and gentle.
She smiled slightly, her eyes full of life again. "Why can't I ever be upset when you're around?" she paused. "There I go again with my stupid questions. You don't have to listen to me."
"Don't be hard on yourself." he murmured. "There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just a stupid answer. That's what my dad says to his class." he said, not seeming to mind the question as his smile faded a bit at what she'd said, before returning slowly.
She sighed, looking away again. "My dad would always tell me to shut my mouth or hold my tongue. Then he'd just slap me." she explained, holding back a growl at the thought.
He frowned a bit, looking a bit upset at how she was treated. "Well.... If you ever need to say anything... You can talk to me..... I'll listen." he murmured with a concerned look and gentle smile.
She looked at him slightly, her blue eyes still dull. "Really? Most people find me annoying because I tend to ramble. And because of my random mood swings I sometimes have..."
He shrugged. "Sure.... I may be antisocial but that doesn't mean I don't have tolerance to talkative people." he replied, his expression never changing as his head tilted slightly and his look grew a bit innocent, trying to cheer her up.
She suddenly shot up, hugging him tightly. "Thank you.... for everything...." she whispered, holding onto his shirt.
He made a slight noise of surprise, before hugging back with his good arm, relaxing as he let out a sigh. "You're welcome.... Just... doing what I can." he whispered, looking at the needles that managed to stay in her arms. "Be careful... Don't rip the needles out again." he added with a soft chuckle.
She only hugged him tighter, never letting go of him and careful not to hurt him. "I've never had a friend like you... So caring..."
He closed his eyes as he held her closer, scooting forward some more so the needles wouldn't come out. "I've never had a friend like you either.." he whispered back, managing to lift his left arm and bring it around her as well, a bit awkwardly, but he wasn't in pain as he let out a sigh, enjoying the embrace that he hadn't really experienced in a while. "I never imagined school to start like this." he said with a soft chuckle, his voice still quiet and soft.
"Neither of us did." she murmured, her eyes closed as her head lay on his shoulder now. He suddenly felt a wetness on his shirt as she cried softly. "I don't want to be hurt again..."
His eyes opened wide as he felt the tears, making a noise as he hugged her tighter, slightly rubbing her back gently with worry in his eyes as he sighed a bit. "I won't let anyone hurt you again....." he whispered, not liking her crying as he let her lay on his shoulder.
She only cried more. "I'm not worried about being hurt physically." she said softly, still clinging to him. "I don't want my heart broken again."
He froze for a moment, before frowning a bit, closing his eyes as he took a breath, looking at her and wiping her tears away, his gaze gentle and soft and honest. "I won't hurt you.... I couldn't..." he whispered, his eyes shining a bit before they closed for a moment. "I'll be the best I can for you....." he whispered, his eyes still closed as he laid her head back to his shoulder.
She whined softly, though smiled at his actions and words, her grip tightening on his shirt. "I trust you...." she said softly, tears still flowing down her cheeks and wetting his shirt even more.
He said nothing more as he gently rubbed her back more, slowly getting up from his seat and sitting on the bed so he could hold her closer, his eyes still closed, ignoring the tears wetting his shirt.
She took several shaky breaths as she tried to calm herself, pushing away all thoughts of her ex-boyfriend and only focusing on what was happening now. Once she was calmed and the tears stopped, she stayed the way she was for a moment before pulling away. She wiped away what tears she had left before sniffing and looking at him. "I-I'm sorry..." she murmured. "I-I never meant to c-cry." It was rather surprising to not see mascara running down her face, so she wasn't wearing make-up, showing her beauty was natural.
He stared for a moment, his eyes soft and gentle as he moved some hair from her face again. "Don't worry about it." he said simply, smiling slightly as his broken arm was still around her, still a bit awkward but never hurting. "It's just a sign of emotion." he added.
She couldn't help but smile, her eyes lighting up with life again slowly. "I'm glad someone understands me." she whispered before snuggling close to him.
He smiled warmly as he let her do as she wished, enjoying the closeness now as she stared into her eyes, his slowly showing their life as well. "Likewise." he said simply as his smile grew. He seemed so calm and gentle now as he held her close and secure, his eyes shining slightly as his gaze never left hers.
She held one of his arms lightly as she laid to the same arm, resting her head to the end of his shoulder as her gaze was locked to his. Her own smile grew as well as she pressed closer to him, though her delicate body hardly putting any pressure on him. With her fragile-looking figure she was lucky not to have anymore damage done to her when she had been slammed against the wall, though the hit to the head could have easily killed her. She seemed pretty lucky.
"You're a lucky girl you weren't killed by that impact.... Just shows you're a hell of a fighter." he said with a soft chuckle, his face starting to get a bit closer without his realization as he seemed too lost in her eyes to notice.
"Well, I did have 6 older brothers. And sure they protected me at school, but we had our fights at home just like any other siblings." she explained, her eyes sparkling now. "Made me the fighter I am, though I may seem shy at times."
He hummed a bit as his eyes sparkled a bit as well. "Well then." he murmured with another soft chuckle, so close his breath was felt beating on her face ever so softly.
She blushed lightly as she felt his breath, though didn't look away or show any signs of protest. Her gaze never left his as every inch of her said innocence.
He chuckled softly as his gaze never left her's, a light blush coming over him as he lightly touched his lips to her's, his blush growing darker as he let his eyes fall closed.
Her own blush darkened as well, though she only kissed him back, her eyes falling shut as well.
His lips were gentle and sweet, though a little bit chapped as he held her closer, making a small noise as he pressed a bit deeper into the kiss, though always careful not to upset her.
She made a noise of her own, seeming a little bit surprised as her hands gripped at his shirt.
He slowly pulled away, his eyes shy like a little kid's as his blush was even darker now. He remained silent as he stared into her eyes, finding no words to say as he gave a nervous smile.
She smiled back sweetly, her blush just as dark as his. She had no words to say, not that she needed any.
He sighed a bit, holding her closer as he looked down and away for a moment, needing a bit to process what happened. He soon looked back to her, his smile a bit bigger and more relaxed as he tilted his head a bit, still finding no words.
They didn't need words. It was too simple just to say what they felt. Their eyes had to speak for them, their movements doing to same. She pressed against him lightly, snuggling back to him. "It sure has been a hell of a first day. But I say it's all worth it." she murmured, finally breaking the silence between them.
He nodded as he kissed her forehead a bit. "I honestly thought it was just going to be the average boring day with just a bunch of broken pencils like every other first day of school for me." he whispered quietly, slowly closing his eyes as he tried to control his still racing heart. "But boy was I in for a hell of a surprise." he chuckled.
"That's what happens when a Junior wanders into a Freshman's classroom without the teacher noticing. We were just the victims he chose to pick." she said softly, still pressed against him.
"And he was too stupid not to consider that one of the kids could have been tougher then they looked." he added with a grin as his eyes opened to look back at her. His blush was fading a bit now as he nuzzled her.
"Well, he was much taller then you. I guess he thought you wouldn't pose as a threat." she said simply, smiling as she was nuzzled.
"Looks can be deceiving can't they?" he muttered. "Anyway he won't bother you anymore." he assured, knowing the boy would probably be too frightened to go near even Katie by now.
Her smiled grew as she nuzzled him softly. "Thank you for saving me." she murmured, holding his shirt a little tighter.
"You're very welcome." he cooed. "Just doing what was right to do." he added, looking into her eyes, his soft and sweet.
Her eyes glimmering faintly as she tilted her head slightly. "At least someone knows what's right."
He tilted his head with her as his eyes softened more. "I just wish there were more people like you in the world...gentle and nice... Then it would be so much better." he murmured quietly.
"Yes, but then people like me would be considered 'plain' and 'boring'. Rarity is good." she said, her smile just as bright as her eyes.
His smile grew. "True." he replied with a sigh as his eyes glimmered. "I'm glad you threw that paper at me." he chuckled, a goofy smile on his face.
"I was afraid you'd only throw it away." she said, looking down slightly before looking back at him with the same smile.
"Well lucky for us I was in a curious mood at the moment." he said. "I normally just ignore things that come my way...but I thought I'd try to read it to see if I could read at all." he laughed a bit.
Her smile grew. "If you hadn't looked at it, I'd be stuck as that jerk's plaything."
He hummed a bit. "I guess curiosity saved the cat for once." he whispered, his smile growing more as he let his forehead lay to hers softy, careful not to hurt her head, even if the damage was in the back.
"Well, he did call me a kitten, so... I guess your right." she laughed softly, her eyes full of brilliant life.
He shrugged a bit, looking at his cast as his arm was now laying in his lap. "I'm gonna go crazy now because I can't draw." he said as he looked back to her, his eyes shining with life as well, his smile never fading.
She giggled before kissing his cheek softly. "I think you'll manage." she cooed, petting his hair just like before.
His smile grew as his hair was pet, closing his eyes as he hummed softly, loving it as he lowered his head a bit.
She laughed softly, only petting his hair more. "You're very sweet when you want to be. Like a puppy."
He chuckled. "I remember when I was little... Mom always called me her little pitbull puppy." he murmured as his smile grew, seeming to get lost in memory for a moment.
She couldn't help but laugh again, nuzzling him sweetly. "Pitbull puppy? What a nickname."
"Well... My mom was a little weird from time to time...A bit of a hippie." he chuckled as he opened his eyes to look at her.
She bit her tongue, knowing it was best not to ask what had become of his mother. She held back a whimper as she bit her tongue, it hurting slightly, though she only smiled. "Well, that nickname is better then mine."
He looked at her with sweet eyes. "And what was that?" he asked quietly.
"Katie cat." she murmured, blushing again. It made sense though as it was clearly supposed to be like kitty cat.
He chuckled with as his smile grew. "That's cute." he murmured as he nuzzled her a bit.
Her blush only darkened, though she didn't say anything as she nuzzled him back. "Yeah, my mom's not the greatest with making up nicknames."
He let out a hum, seeming to lose himself in memory or something as he looked down and away.
She turned to silence, not wanting to bother him if he was thinking. She stared for a moment, before deciding it was rather rude as her gaze quickly turned to a nearby window.
He slowly looked back to her. "Sorry about that... I zone out every now and again." he apologized.
Her gaze came back to him and she smiled slightly. "It's fine." she said softly.
"It's a bad habit...." he mumbled to himself as he shrugged a bit, before gently hugging her tighter.
She smiled, hugging him back gently. "We all have bad habits. I ramble, you daydream. I have mood swings, you sometimes have a strange look in your eyes. It defines us."
His smile grew more as he kissed her forehead again. "Thanks..." he whispered in her ear quietly, before falling silent again for a while.
Her smile grew as she was kissed, laying her head on his shoulder lightly as she still held him in the sweet embrace.
He started rocking back and forth slowly, closing his eyes as he liked having someone to hold now. He suddenly jumped a bit as a belch rang in the air loudly.
She stiffened a bit in surprise before laughing softly, having a feeling she knew who is was.
Fletcher made a noise as he looked to the door, his grip starting to loosen on her as he was still shy with showing affection in front of others. There was a sudden thump as the door rattled, now closed as it seemed like the person behind it was trying to find the doorknob but couldn't for some reason
"Oh my god! I can't see!!" Rugby's voice cried as she laughed. "I'm never stealing his glasses again!" she said to herself as she continued to try and get in.
Katie looked towards the door as well, not being able to hold back another laugh, though this one softer.
Rugby finally opened the door and stumbled in. A big doctors jacket on and Mikey's glasses and a clipboard, making her look completely ridiculous. "Hey Katie!" she called, not being able to really see and tell that Fletcher was there with the glasses on.
Katie had trouble stiffening a laugh as she stared at Rugby, a dark blush on her face though she was a bit relieved Rugby couldn't see her and Fletcher beside each other, her still quite shy as well. "What on earth are you doing??"
"Nothing." she said as she reached up to the glasses slowly, but only to push them up. "You see what happens when people leave crap laying around!?" she asked, motioning to several scratches on her arm and bruises on her legs. "I find them and then can't see!" she exclaimed, it was clear she had had some sort of sugar or something.
"Rugby, are you feeling okay?" Katie asked, knowing she was being a bit too hyper at the moment.
Rugby leaned to the wall. "Welllll I kinda snuck into the lounge and found a cake." she said with a giggle. "And some Dr Pepper.." she mumbled.
"Rugby!" Katie cried playfully, laughing again brightly. "You don't need to be eating that kind of stuff, you're already too hyper without sugar as it is."
Rugby shrugged. "It was chocolate!" she cried, before pausing and squinting a bit, starting to pay attention to what she was seeing, even if it was blurry she knew something wasn't right.
Katie didn't seem to notice, rolling her eyes. "I don't care!" she said before snickering, still finding Rugby extremely funny looking.
Fletcher tensed a bit as he noticed Rugby sensing something was up.
"Dude, am I seeing things or...." she stopped as she reached up to the glasses.
Katie froze, stiffening a bit as she looked at Rugby, eyes widening.
Rugby slowly started to take the glasses off, blinking as her eyes adjusted. "The hell?" she mumbled, her eyes growing wide. Fletcher made a noise as his blush grew darker and he let Katie go quickly.
Katie's face was a dark red as she blushed like mad. She held back a whimper when Fletcher let go, not really wanting him too, but she was too shocked and frozen in place to do or say anything.
